About Rob Nicholls

Rob’s work, since 2012, explores the effect of visual vibration in painting using repeated brushstrokes, pattern and dynamic colour relationships. He develops mark-making techniques from observing occurrences of repetition found within architecture.

He currently instructs in the Drawing and Painting department at OCADU. “My teaching method focuses on material experimentation and exploration. I’m interested in looking at students natural tendencies in mark-making and then helping them build an authentic visual vocabulary from which to make drawings and paintings.”

He has exhibited his work across Canada and holds an MFA from the University of Waterloo where he participated in the Shantz Internship working with artists such as Tom McGrath, Dana Schutz and Marc Handelman in Brooklyn NY.
