About Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts
The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts – TAPA is an arts service organization dedicated to advancing the arts in the city of Toronto by promoting and advocating on behalf of local theatre, dance and opera companies and providing services to enhance the artistic, technical and administrative development of its membership. TAPA also supports a large number of allied members consisting of industry suppliers, managers, publicists, ticket agencies, educational institutions, training studios, talent and casting agents, and other businesses that contribute to the performing arts in Toronto.
TAPA was originally formed in 1977 and officially incorporated in 1979. Then known as the ‘Toronto Theatre Alliance’, the organization was much smaller, and has since grown substantially. At the end of our last fiscal year, the membership consisted of 201 members reflecting the diversity of Toronto.
TAPA’s programs & services include The Dora Mavor Moore Awards, www.whatsontonight.ca, TOnight (an app for Toronto performing arts tickets), Toronto Theatre Guide, hipTIX (offering $5 tickets to students between the ages of 14 and 29), citySPECIAL (a ticket program for newcomers and at-risk youth), the Commercial Theatre Development Fund, the Travel Retreat Initiatives Program – TRIP, and Spacefinder Toronto.
