401 Richmond is pleased to announce Bree Rosberg as the recipient of the 401 Career Launcher Prize for 2026/2027. Awarded annually, the prize provides an exceptional opportunity to occupy a coveted 500 sq/ft studio for a full year at one of Canada’s most dynamic arts facilities. The 401 Career Launcher Prize has been presented annually since 2000 as a way of providing support for research and experimentation at a critical time in an emerging artist’s career.

“Bree Rosberg was a stand-out applicant with not only a clearly accomplished practice but also a demonstrated desire to become part of the 401 Richmond creative ecosystem,” says the 2026 401 Career Launcher Prize Selection Committee. “We’re confident that her explorations in still photography, film, and sculpture will further flourish during her time in the studio.”

Bree Rosberg is a multidisciplinary artist with work expanding across the mediums of photography, video, textiles, and craft. The way in which Bree creates her work relies heavily on concept and intention, with a strong will to perpetuate the importance of text and dialogue in relation to physical art. This use of text and titling appears in her textile sculpture works that address the continuous conversation of what is art vs. craft. Bree’s conceptual process stems from a focus on introspection, reflecting on her childhood and familial histories through a feminist lens expressed using performative self-portraiture in both photo and video form.

Reflecting on receiving the Prize, Bree reflects:
“I am very thankful for this opportunity to join the 401 Richmond community not just as a lover of the space but as a working artist emerging in the Toronto art scene. Over the next year, I will be able to expand my practice with projects that previously seemed difficult due to my small amount of workspace available. By entering a community filled with fellow artists and arts spaces, I will be able to learn and grow as a creative with the support of the 401 Richmond network, branch into new mediums, and further strengthen the skills I already have. I am very intrigued to see how my practice will shift and expand with this new stage of my artistic career.”
Bree will join the 401 Richmond community in Studio 260 from September 2026 to August 2027.
